My dear readers,
1. Chaste and Modest
In dress code, “chaste and modest” speaks mainly to our ladies and girls, but with reference to Christian conduct and lifestyle, the words apply equally to both sexes. How we dress must be a reflexion of our Christian faith and moral code. In our stress on “Biblical Separation” in doctrine and ecclesiastical matters, let us not neglect separation in personal appearance and lifestyle as befitting our heavenly calling.”A child of God must not dress and act like a child of the world.”
During our Holy Land travels, one thing that consistently struck us was the prevailing standard of modesty required for admission to places of worship. Notices are prominently displayed at entrances to “sacred spots” and not merely displayed but strictly enforced by security personnel.
Let our members and all who love the Lord appear before Him always and in all places, in chaste and modest attire. For the true Christian, the child of God, purchased and belonging to the Lord, his / her body is the temple of the Holy Ghost who dwells within each of us. If so, how should we treat this “temple,” the abode of God? This is where the term “chaste and modest” show up the true Christian person.
In God’s House, let us take extra care to appear before God, with “clean hands and pure hearts” (Ps 24:2 ), in chaste attire and modest make-up, reflecting pure hearts within. Let none appear before the Lord improperly or scantily dressed, with excessive make-up, revealing and exposing flesh which should be covered, for the glory of God.
2. “Love not the world”
The Apostle John has timely instruction for each of us. Let all who belong to God be loyal (and proud) to be seen as different from the fashion-struck crowd, flocking down the “Broadway of Destruction” (Matt 7:13 ). The god of this world is smart, smarter than we think. He uses every device to attract and seduce Christians to imitate the world in every possible way, using the banner of “fashion” and “progress” to persuade ladies to decorate themselves with worldly and immodest make-up, the latest fashion and dress style, etc.
Alas! Many of our short-sighted and feeble-minded lasses fall into the “flash trap,” thinking they are more “flashy” – more attractive and fashionable by being more “fleshy.” So the masters of fashion have “created” all sorts of dress styles which reveal more and more flesh, setting up “flesh traps” for vulnerable males and lust-filled men.
Heed the warning sound of God’s Word in 1 John 2:16 , 17 : “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
3. “Wedding Fashions”
Most wedding gowns today are designed to expose the bride to the public gaze – either “strapless” or strung up by the barest of “spaghetti straps.” For Christian brides, in particular our “B-P brides,” this ought not so to be. Let our bridal couples (and prospective brides) “dignify” the Saviour by the wearing of “modest and chaste” attire. Recently I was much impressed by the bride of Brother John Poh, a member of New Life BP Church, London. The bride’s gown was a model of “modesty and chastity” which (reproduced hereat) I heartily recommend for all our prospective brides. Let not our lasses join in the world’s “flesh parade” on their “day of days.”
Lovingly in the Lord |
