Church Weekly for 22 April 2007

My dear readers,

1. Call for “Bible Memorizers”

Every Christian should “grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18). This is the sure way to spiritual health. Question: What is the state of your spiritual health? Is it growing or going? Does your knowledge of the Lord and His Word grow with each passing year? May the Spirit of God dwelling in you stir up your spirit to respond to the challenge of our “Bible Memorization Course April – June 2007” on the theme “Until Christ be formed in you.”

Let as many as love the Lord resolve to be serious in this spiritual exercise, and see how your spiritual vitality will grow. One verse per week will require about 10 minutes daily, plus discipline to sit quietly and exercise your brain cells for the Lord and for your own blessing.

Happy memorization!

2. Hilltop latest

Rev Dan Ebert III and Mrs Ebert are keeping well in the States. Rev Bill Ebert “holding the fort” in the Philippines Hilltop “Center for Biblical Studies” reports of recent blessings from God. His letter is reprinted for readers’ information and prayer.

Greetings in the name of our most precious Savior. I wanted to share with you the wonderful time we had at graduation and Bible conference. I have attached three pictures, two of graduation. We had thirteen graduates and the chapel was filled with well wishers. It was a wonderful time of thanksgiving and praising the Lord for his faithfulness. Then we had our Churches conference; there were 72 pastors; by Wednesday night a total of 392 people. Then on Friday night the school gave its Easter Cantata, and there were more than 600 people. It was exciting to hear them sing and praise the name of the Lord. When they sang of the resurrection it was so uplifting.

We are now on summer break, this will last until the first week in June.

I want to thank Calvary for its faithful prayers and support.

Our telephone lines are still down, the phones often ring when someone tries to call but nothing happens on this side and we do not have a dial tone. – Rev Bill Ebert (Calvary has been supporting the Eberts for a good twenty years – Ed).

3. Homosexual Wedding Industry booming
Friday Church News Notes

The homosexual wedding industry is growing quickly in America, according to a report in the Washington Post for December 25. Only one state, Massachusetts, has legalized homosexual marriage, but four others have approved some form of legal recognition of same-sex unions. Most recently the governor of New Jersey signed a law on December 21 giving homosexual couples all the rights and responsibilities of marriage, though not the title. The homosexual wedding industry is booming in some other states, as well, with the increased acceptance of homosexuality by society at large in recent decades. Kathryn Hamm, a wedding consultant, says there is no longer the shame and privacy associated with homosexual unions (“Despite Laws, Gay Wedding Industry Booms,” Washington Post, Dec 25). In 2005, homosexuals spent $7.2 million on vendors who advertise with the Rainbow Wedding Network, an increase of more than 150% since 2002. Homosexuals in states such as Massachusetts and Vermont, that recognize homosexual unions, spend about m$20,000 on ceremonies. All of this is a sign of the times. In Luke 21 the Lord Jesus Christ likened the conditions that exist prior to His return to the days of Lot who lived in the wicked city of Sodom. “Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” (Jude 7). – Christian News Jan 8, 2007

4. First Meeting of Anglican and RC Bishops since the Reformation

Seventy Anglican and Roman Catholic bishops have consulted and worshipped together for the first time in 500 years.

Their meeting follows the mandate of the International Anglican Roman Catholic Commission (IARCCUM) for Unit and Mission, which met at Mississauga, Canada, in May 2000, in the face of strong Protestant protests. (British Church Newspaper November 24, 2006)

5. Sign of the “End Time”

The Harlot Church of Rev 17 takes shape: the writing is on the wall. Our Lord is coming! Let’s watch unto prayer, and work while it is day. “Occupy till I come!” says our Lord.

Last reminder: ACM 7.30 pm Saturday 28 April. The King’s business requires your presence.

Lovingly in the Lord
Dr SH Tow, Senior Pastor
